#PrayGlobal – Day 1

By Glem Melo

1. God is real; and He is perfectly and infinitely merciful and “good, a refuge in the day of distress; and He is close to those who trust in Him” (Nahum 1:7, all translations mine).

2. Because He is the King and Emperor of heaven, earth, and the whole universe, Jesus has absolute jurisdiction and control over everything. He said (after His resurrection), “All authority in heaven and the earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and disciple all the nations… (Matthew 28:18–19).

3. We are not fighting against human beings, but against satan and his demons, who control and use people, human governments, etc. to oppress and enslave humanity. “Because our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the [superhuman] rulers, authorities, cosmic powers of this present darkness, and evil spiritual beings in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12).

4. We must pray for protection for ourselves and all our loved ones. “When evildoers come to devour [you], it is they—[your] enemies and those who are hostile to [you]—who will stumble and fall. Though an army besieges [you, your hearts] will not be afraid. Though war breaks out against [you]—even in that, you will be confident” (Psalm 27:2–3).

“The Christian Martyrs’ Last Prayer” by Jean Léon Gérôme Walters, created between 1863 and 1883

5. We must love and pray for those who hate and/or harm us. Jesus says, “Love your enemies; and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:44).
