Power is not a license. It is a debt.
In our modern world, we have conditioned ourselves to believe that strength is its own justification. We mistake military might for divine favor, and tactical victory for moral righteousness. We tell ourselves that as long as we are winning, we must be right.
But the Bible—and the long, blood-soaked wreckage of human history—tells a different story.
The Great Deception of “Security”
We often use power to crush the vulnerable and then have the audacity to call it “security.”
We justify violence, the displacement of the weak, and the silencing of the marginalized, and we label it “righteousness.” We build systems of defense that are actually systems of defiance—defiance against the basic moral law that governs every human soul.
But God does not judge by the color of a flag or the sophistication of a narrative. He is not impressed by our propaganda. He judges one thing: How is power being used?

The Myth of Exemption
There is a dangerous lie that suggests certain people or nations are exempt from the moral law. We claim exemption based on:
• Our History: “We have been through enough.”
• Our Identity: “We are the chosen/the good guys/the exceptions.”
• Our Suffering: “Our pain justifies our current actions.”
The Truth: You are not exempt. In the economy of God, power does not grant privilege; it multiplies responsibility. The stronger you are, the more strictly you are judged. The higher the throne, the deeper the accountability.
God’s Requirement
Centuries ago, the Prophet Micah stood before a nation that had become obsessed with its own strength and religious performativity. God’s word communicated through him remains the ultimate metric for every system of power today:
“He has shown you, O human, what is good. And what does YHWH require of you? To act justly, to love covenant faithfulness, and to walk humbly with your God.” — Micah 6:8 (Translation mine)
Notice what is not required: dominance, crushing force, or the “security” of the graveyard. What is required is Justice (mishpat), Covenant Faithfulness (hesed), and Humility (tsana).
Turn While There is Still Time
History is a graveyard of systems and empires that thought they were the exception to these rules. They believed they were too strong to fail and too “right” to be judged.
They were wrong.
Every system of power that ignores justice—that chooses force over mercy and pride over humility—will eventually collapse under the weight of its own iniquity. It will not stand.
Turn. Seek justice without becoming unjust.
Protect life.
Refuse dehumanization.
There is still time to choose a different path. But the clock of history is ticking, and the Judge of the Nations is watching.
