To my son and best friend: HAPPY 13TH BIRTHDAY! Even as a little boy, you have always been there for me, especially on the most difficult and trying times of my life. You are truly like an “old man.” I thank God so much for you, and I love you very, very, very much.
It is not an accident that we started learning to sing Psalm 37 last Saturday night (less than two hours before your big day), and the preaching during our 2nd church service (on your birthday) was on Cain the covenant-breaker “prospering.”
For you and me and our family…
Fret not yourself because of evildoers;
be not envious of wrongdoers!
For they will soon fade like the grass
and wither like the green herb.
Trust in the LORD, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the LORD,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him, and he will act.
He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
and your justice as the noonday.
Psalm 37:1-6
