Jesus Rejected Satan and Worshiped God Alone

Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.'” Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.
(Matthew 4:8-11)

In Mount Nebo, God (YAHWEH) “showed” Moses “all the land,” which He “swore” to “give” to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob’s “offspring” (Deuteronomy 34:1-4). In the third temptation, satan took Jesus to “a very high mountain,” “showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory,” and offered to “give” them to him.

Temptations_of_Christ_(San_Marco) 3It is is clear: Satan was taking God’s place. He was saying, “I am like YAHWEH. And all these I will give you…” Then blatantly, he tempted Jesus to become his worshiper. But Jesus rejected satan and remained faithful to God and His covenant. He would only receive His inheritance from the Father and worshiped Him alone.

Christian believer, you have such a faithful and pure Savior. Be immovable in faith. Doubt not. Fear not. Reject satan and the world. Like Christ, be loyal and faithful to God and His covenant. His words are true:

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.'” (Matthew 25:31-34)
