Zamboanga is still a danger zone because of civilian symphatizers of the defeated Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) who set off bombs outside ground zero. The dangers and troubles that our Christian brothers and sisters there face everyday is vividly depicted in a message that I recently received:
Zamboanga is still unsafe because of the MNLF symphatizers. They bomb communities outside ground zero. This poses more dangers to regular citizens, and necessitates more caution and alertness from us.
Little by little, it’s “back to work” in our city. Yet we are all a bit paranoid. When messages are received about suspected bomb threats, people run away immediately. Banks and fast food stores are open until 12:00 noon only. By 3:00 pm there are no more people on the streets, and establishments like hospitals and drug stores are closed.
