1. God is love (1 John 4:8).

2. The church must be characterized by love (1 John 3:10-15).

3. Our love for one another must characterized by self-sacrifice (1 John 3:16-18).

a. According to the heart and example of Christ (verse 16)

b. In practical ways (verses 17-18)
