Jesus came to set us free from sin and from all the judgment and curses that come with sin. Two thousand years ago, He read a portion of Isaiah chapter 61 in the synagogue in Nazareth.
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me because He anointed Me to announce Good News to the poor. He sent me to proclaim freedom to prisoners, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18–19)
Then with all eyes fixed on Him, he said,
“Today, as you listen, this Scripture is fulfilled.” (Luke 4:21)
Jesus is the King and Servant whom God sent for the healing and liberation of His people. Because of Jesus, the curse of sin and judgment has been broken. Because of Jesus, the sick are healed, and those who are enslaved and oppressed are set free.
