“But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many. And the free gift is not like the result of that one man’s sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brought justification. For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:15-17)
Because Adam represented all human beings, when he sinned and was condemned, we all sinned and were condemned with him. And because Christ suffered and died as the representative and substitute of all who are His, in Him all true believers are forgiven, declared righteous and made heirs of eternal life.
But Christ’s gift is so much greater than Adam’s sin. The word “abounded” in Romans 5:15 is perisseuō in Greek. It means to superabound (in quantity or quality), be in excess, to exceed a fixed number of measure, to be left over and above a certain number or measure. This teaches us that God’s grace and free gift of righteousness was not just given to us; because of Jesus it was made to super-abound for us. Praise the Lord, we have His grace and free gift of righteousness in super-abundance!
Christian believer, know how super-abundantly blessed you are in and because of the Lord Jesus Christ! Live a life of thankfulness to God by obeying His word.
