Out of Nothing

OUT OF NOTHINGNESS

Genesis 1:1

Introduction

  • Creation foreshadows the new creation.
  • Christ is the new creation.
  • All true Christian believers are new creations in Him.
  • The successful accomplishment of God’s work of creation guarantees the successful accomplishment and consummation of His work of new creation in Christ.

1. God our Creator and New Creator is infinite in bigness, greatness, and power.

a. God is Elohim in Hebrew. It is plural.

The plural Elohim reveals our Creator and New Creator’s infinite immensity and power.

b. Jesus is Elohim. (John 1:1)

Christ, the New Creation and our New Creator, is infinite in bigness, greatness, and power.

Glem Meloc. Creation was “very good,” perfect, and complete because, and only because, of the infinite bigness, greatness, and power of our Creator and New Creator.

d. The infinite bigness, greatness, and power of our Creator and New Creator guarantees the perfect accomplishment and consummation of the new creation in Christ.

Application

  • In our Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—we have everything that we need.
  • Live, pray, and serve the Lord with unwavering faith and confidence.  Because of our Creator and New Creator’s infinite immensity and power, Christ’s work of new creation in you, in your family, in the church, and in the world is guaranteed to be successfully accomplished and consummated.

2. Both creation and new creation are out of nothingness.

a. “Beginning” = the start of all things, including time and space

b. “In the beginning” = creation was out of nothing

c. Both creation and new creation are monergistic, i.e. the work of God alone.

d. In the same way that creation was out of nothing, God’s work of new creation is also out of nothing.

e. God the Son became nothing in His incarnation, life, crucifixion, death, and burial for us.

f. In God the Son who became nothing for our salvation and re-creation, the new creation has begun.

g. God saved and re-created us out of nothing, i.e. monergistically, by grace alone, without our help and works.

g. The consummation of God’s work of new creation in Christ on His second coming, will also be out of nothing, i.e. monergistic, by grace alone, without our help or works.

Application

  • Confess your nothingness before the Lord.
  • Thank, praise, and worship Christ for becoming nothing in His incarnation, life, death, and burial in order to become both the New Creation and our New Creator through His resurrection, intercession, and kingdom rule.
  • Live, pray, and serve the Lord with unwavering faith and confidence.  Despite of our nothingness and that of our families, church, and society, because of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, God’s work of salvation and new creation shall surely be accomplished and consummated.

“Creation was out of nothing. In His incarnation, life, crucifixion, death, and burial, God the Son became nothing in order to save and re-create us. In Him, the new creation has begun.” – Pastor Glem Melo
