Paul presents two opposing processes of formation: being conformed by this age and being transformed by the renewal of the mind. Jesus’ believers–followers are not merely commanded to avoid particular evils. We must resist the forces by which an age forms our minds—what it teaches us to believe, value, normalize, fear, defend, and condemn.
Applied contemporarily, “do not be conformed by this age” includes rejecting “White” and other evil imperialist propaganda and MISEDUCATION.
Evil empire does not rule only through armies, governments, laws, wealth, and coercion. It also rules through narratives and education — about who is civilized and who is dangerous; whose lives matter and whose suffering can be ignored; whose history deserves remembrance and whose can be erased; whose domination is called “order” and whose resistance is called disorder.
This danger becomes especially grave when imperial propaganda and miseducation are garbed in “Christian” form, expression, and communication. Since Constantine, imperial power has repeatedly been clothed in “Christian” vocabulary, symbolism, and legitimization. Later European and “White” imperial systems developed within this longer “Christian”-imperial history, using “Christian” language to sanctify invasions, genocide, land theft, colonization, enslaving, racial hierarchy, exploitation, and domination.
Therefore, our calling cannot end with refusing to believe propaganda ourselves.
Jesus calls His believers–followers “the salt of the land” and “the light of the cosmos” (Matthew 5:13–14), and commissions us to “disciple all the ethnē” (Matthew 28:19). Accordingly, we are mandated and obligated by God not merely to escape imperial miseducation, but to expose, resist, and dismantle it — especially when oppression, murder, and theft disguise themselves as “Christianity.”
The renewal of the mind demands that inherited narratives, institutions, interpretations, and traditions be tested rather than merely repeated. Whatever has been called “Christian” must itself be judged by Jesus Messiah (Solus Christus) and His word alone (Sola Scriptura).
Do not let this age form your mind.
Be transformed by its renewal — in Christ, by the grace and power of the indwelling Holy Spirit.
Reject propaganda.
Dismantle MISEDUCATION.
Discern God’s will.
Be salt.
Be light.
Disciple all the ethnē.
